NDSU to CUSA

Independent is too risky, no bowl tie-ins, CFP money, media deal, conference championship or even guaranteed games.

CUSA is a train wreck conference with a crap media deal. Who wants to login to facebook to watch?

MAC and MWC are the only rational choices. Get SDSU or Montana to move with us to one of those and it becomes attractive.

Conferences typically want an even number of schools and add in pairs, unless just one school leaves and its a backfill.
Also, can be helpful to have a travel partner to reduce costs, especially if joining for all sports. Most conferences aren't looking for football only members. Other conference members may also find it easier to travel to NDSU/SDSU as part of one trip, rather than say NDSU and UTEP.

Sure, if Boise leaves MWC, and there's one opening jump on it. But its helpful to have a regional partner, and it would be good for us to have those discussions.
