NIL is largely not about paying for their skills or appearances. It's pay from businesses in exchange for services in theory. Some do give access to players for appearances, but it's primarily just a recruiting tool and signing bonus.

What I'm curious to see is if it starts to affect fundraising for booster groups or foundations. Is Joe Alumnus going to make his $2k donation to the NIL pool or the booster group? Is the local corporation going to create an NIL deal to help sign the top 5 targets or pay for a sponsorship deal with the athletic department. What percentage of the NIL money is going to be net new money? And what percentage will be taken away from money that helps support the women's soccer team and the men's cross country team? Time will tell, and it will affect different schools in different ways.

There is only so much money to go around. Although boosters are more linked to game tickets, raffles, etc.

An NIL could cut into capital projects.

If you're a team like NDSU, you want to max out the endowment so Teammakers can fund 100% projects and not worry about it.

Then hope TM or a 3rd party group can organize something for a collective. If we can find someone to approach a new business with no previous connection and organize something its not as hard as we think. Lets say we want to get 100 football playerd $500 each. Thats 50 grand. In return the players who participate have to follow their social media, retweet and share and make a video posting. You have all the players appear in a commercial or video. You duplicate that 4x and thats 2 grand, half of full cost of attendance. For a walk on, thats a chunk of tuition. For a 1/2 ride, that money makes a difference

    17X National Champions: 65, 68, 69, 83, 85, 86, 88, 90, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21

Join the Green and the Gold Collective to take Bison football to the next level. Starts at $10 a month

The Green and The Gold Collective is excited to announce our #DriveToFive membership campaign. The goal of this campaign is to get to 500 monthly members. Reaching this goal will help us provide financial support to NDSU student athletes, including every returning member of the football team that saw action on the field last year!

If that was actually how this worked I would agree. But it's athletes getting $10k, $100k, $1m to sign a LOI at a particular school. The terms of the NIL may set certain expectations, but you don't hear about those. That's why I see it more as a signing bonus than an NIL. It's mostly just N as in being your name to X university. The NCAA knew this would happen, which is why they opposed it. They eventually had no choice.

The FCS ans G5 wont be able to compete with those guys no matter what. They can pay players more than most teams pay coaches. What we need to do is give us an edge at our level, which is top FCS and mid major schools

Ultimately it will be top FCS and G5 teams fighting over top G5, FCS and D2 prospects. I guarantee the Mac and MWC schools will start small. The top MVFC teams will do it. By organizing an NIL, we can borderline make walk ons scholarship players

The money definitely won't be as excessive at the G5/FCS level, but there could be some relative impacts. The boosters and fundraisers for Ohio State is already much more than NDSU so NIL will be similar. $1m funds redirected from those donors at NDSU may have a bigger impact than $15m at Ohio State.

The bigger impact I think for basketball or football is someone who stands out their freshman or sophomore seasons getting lured to a bigger program with NIL money. Hard for a 19 or 20 year old to turn down even $100k/year.

Seems like everyone on this board wants some chunk of the management structure fired, they’re obviously not earning their pay; some of it can go to the players instead. Money is also probably better invested in the talent than on monuments to donor egos or over engineered billboards anyway which are what capital projects are.

Wayne State... that's small time but he's going to start there. A scholly is a scholly and close to home obviously.

This is where NIL can give us an edge. We're out of full rides but an NIL deal could offset some of it

And not having NiL as a scholly player while a pwo does? Recipe for disaster.
