Pretty good day overall for NDSU.
125- Negrete took 5th and lost to Jordan and Eisch. He should've beat Eisch, as he had a cradle in OT, but got overzealous and put himself on his back and lost. He really needs to work on his neutral game. Would love to see him up his pace, control ties better, and work on a go to takedown. He seems to be in great shape, and I haven't seen him get tired yet, so if you up the pace and combine it with his speed, good things will happen. Evens didn't place and lost to Roybal and Eisch in OT.
133- March doesn't look good early in the year IMO. He has no offense right now and isn't doing well on top.
141- I thought Droegemueller looked good today. Had numerous good shots on Carlson, just couldn't finish. Good win over Polanco. Watts, Stuhl, and Schumm were all ok at times. Stuhl in particular looked improved, while I was impressed with Watts. I think they might have something with him.
149- No Sax or JVM. Radenz had some really good moments today.
157- Franek did well today and had Lee on the ropes. It's very promising that he has taken down Lee and Jacques (twice) and he's looking better on top vs lesser competition. Mike Weber had some good moments, just seems a little sloppy.
165- Weber wasn't great vs Sparks and needs to be more interested in getting to his ties and offense. He let Sparks dictate the action from neutral and it didn't go well for Luke. Gode went 0-2 and didn't show much.
174- Really promising day for Brenner, as he notched quality wins over teammate Habisch and Bailee O'Reilly. Morgan had two wins and looks like a depth guy.Habisch was ok today.
184- Nelson really struggled and Parker was fantastic. Have to wonder if they are going to be able to resist pulling Parker's redshirt. Nelson is shooting from a mile away with no setup and extending himself, but its been a problem for a while. Parker on the other hand, has unreal speed, some beautiful attacks and looks to be very good with some tilts. The sky is the limit with him.
197- Pentz wasn't his best today, and he pinned his way to the title. He's just so dang strong. Mooberry really struggled again and I'm starting to worry a bit already. He's so tall, it's just hard to see how he adds muscle to his frame and remains at 197. If he doesn't add muscle, he's going to continue to lose matches due to lack of strength.
HWT- Great day for Metz and Mora just keeps winning. Metz controlled the ties vs Nevills, was patient with his throw, and timed it beautifully. He'll rise in the rnakings after that one. Metz was noticeably better on top today too. Mora keeps winning without really excelling in any area. Even his loss to Nevills was very competitive and he was right their. Needs to just get more confident and aggressive and he'll be great. He's already strong, quick, and patient.
Overall, the veterans did well and a couple freshmen had promising days.
If they keep Parker in redshirt, they have holes at 125 and 184 with probably average starters at 133 and 149. The rest of the guys look very solid right now.
