So this poll/ranking says there are 96 FBS teams better than NDSU. It may need some recalibrating.

So this poll/ranking says there are 96 FBS teams better than NDSU. It may need some recalibrating.

If the Bison win by less than 50 points on Saturday, they will drop further down. It seems if a team doesn't beat the predicted margin, then the rating drops. The strength of schedule is so weak this year that there is little upside on the Sagarin ratings unless all games are absolute blow outs (for the good guys that is).

What about the years when NDSU finished in the top 20 of the Sagarin ratings at the end of the season? I track the Sagarin ratings, but don't put too much into them during the first half of the season.

Sure it’s fun to see in those circumstances but I don’t think anyone but us Bison faithful think much of it then either. I really don’t care what they think either TBH.

I mean, in a nutshell, exactly.
That's kind of the basis in how the rankings work, not sure how that's confusing.
Exceed the current data set, move up.
Underperform, move down.
Throw in how past and future opponents do and put it in a proprietary formula.
