    Bison vs the Big Dogs!

    NDSU & Albany

Things I’ll be watching today include:

    - Albany has the same problem - to me - that NDSU would have had against Oregon in the game that never happened last fall - Can they score enough to stay in the game? I had some confidence Trey Lance and the Bison Offense would find a way to get the Bison some points and also keep the Ducks O off the field. I have less confidence Jeff Undercuffler and the Great Danes Offense can do that. Undercuffler only completed 55% of his passes in his 3 games this spring, so he can be pressured into a poor performance. That being said, Albany can try and utilize the short passing game, 3 & 5 step drops by the QB to keep the NDSU pressure off of Undercuffler.

    - Star RB Karl Mofor had 13 receptions for 85 yards in the 4 games this spring so can be a nice relief valve for Albany. Swing passes & draw plays are what Mofor could provide. His backup is Joey Carino, who had 12 carries for 79 yards this spring. J Carino also has a nice side hustle - he serves a tasty calamari at his namesake restaurant…yum

    - Player group rotation - the Bison actually started playing more than 3 LB’s this spring. Do they expand on that? Was impressed with Soph Cole Wisniewski flying around this spring, seems like a future playmaker! Same with the DB’s. Another Soph, S Dom Jones, also seems like a playmaker. How do the coaches get him on the field? Who is on the nickel package? Playing time for the CB’s?

    - Jake Kubas named the starter at RG. Is he a placeholder as Grey Zabel works his way back from injury? Or does he take it and run? Seemed like the Bison offense did better when Zabel was in this spring. It also seemed better when Jake Rock was at RT and Cordell Volson shifted to RG. Injuries caused several changes to the OL this spring and as a result the Rams now have flexibility & depth in their lineup.

    - Offense & the play calling. Does NDSU just try and overpower Albany? Or use more of the playbook? Overpower a team worked against El Forko Grande this spring, not so much against Brookings and Sammy……

    - Jared Verse at DE for Albany #96 - Does the 6’ 4” 255 RFr line up against Cordell Volson? Or do the Great Danes have him elsewhere? Always enjoy watching potential NFL players go against the Bison! Verse is the CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year and is good at generating TFL’s. All-CAA Second Team.

    GoBizon!

Can we get back to normal Bison football? Keep 3rd downs to 3rd and short and then maybe convert a few? Can the defense get off the field on 3rd down and maybe create some turnovers.

Hopefully, we discovered how predictable our offense was and improve play-calling. Maybe run the jet sweep on 1st down and then run the dive up the gut on 2nd down?

Our CB's are a question mark to me.

    Bison 36- Albany 13.
North Dakota State, a football team the big boys of college football should avoid like the plague, helped christen a $90 million renovation to Snyder Family Stadium — including a statue of famed Kansas State coach Bill Snyder himself — by taking a sledgehammer to the place.

Only hope Quincy Patterson plays half as well as the SDSU quarterback played last night. If he does we'll be Golden.

To Bruins point, we can probably push this Dline around come the 2nd half. But we need experience running an actual offense and calling actual plays here. Dlines like UND and EWU only come around a few times a year.

These first two games should really allow us to test QP. I hope we do.
