The guy who does my windows has a night gig as a bartender for Hennepin Theater Trust. Works all the shows for Pantages, Orpheum and State theaters. When he was out here a month ago he said they are planning to reopen shows in October I think. He said that while he and his colleagues miss the income none of them are all too keen on returning to work downtown right now.

Join the Green and the Gold Collective to take Bison football to the next level. Starts at $10 a month
The Green and The Gold Collective is excited to announce our #DriveToFive membership campaign. The goal of this campaign is to get to 500 monthly members. Reaching this goal will help us provide financial support to NDSU student athletes, including every returning member of the football team that saw action on the field last year!

Yeah that's surely possible. But the shootings downtown usually have not been by LE. Those are the ones that will bring the unrest. Typically the downtown area is reserved for the protest marches that target the Government Center block, just west of US Bank Stadium by a couple of blocks. Those would be during the day though and also probably during the work week so they can F' up commuters.
Edit: to your point though the one recent cop involved shooting downtown sure did blow things up. WCCO studio windows are still boarded up a year later.
Other than being peddled by the homeless crowd, I never felt unsafe during the day while walking around downtown. We moved back to ND and I haven’t been downtown in about 1.5 years though. Twins games at night were always a little sketchy if you had to walk by the metro line near Sneaky Pete’s.
