Former NDSU player Tony Paul had something similar in like 1995 after a snowmobile accident , wore a halo etc, didn't play again.

My dad had a cervical fusion from getting injured while playing tennis. 10 years since his lower legs are only 70% as good as they were before. Andy won't play any serious sports in his life, even his later part of life will have a lot of pain involved. If he is lucky in 20 years stem cell treatments might give him most of the function back.
