I didn't see the play, however, if you're ready to field your position (even as a pitcher), you shouldn't be taking hot shots off your back.

The pitcher didn’t have time to set up in a defensive position after completing his pitching motion and was really just trying to duck for cover.

If I recall they were ranked just outside the seeded group so this probably isn't a huge upset. The Bison got a tough draw with the top 2 teams.
