He's now played in 9 games in high A and while the batting average is low and the strikeouts are high, the power has been there. He's hitting .233 with a pair of homers and doubles while primarily hitting cleanup and playing 3rd base.
Overall slash line for the year is: .313/.363/.485 for an .848 OPS with 5 HRs.
He has struck out 43 times in just 134 at bats, while only walking 6 times. Like to see a better ratio there next year and he has been older than the average for each league he's played in.
All in all, he's had a great first pro season.
I'd be very surprised if they do have him play fall league. They have a long list of toolsy position prospects who haven't shown the ability to hit yet, and need all the at bats as they can get. Even in the infield, they have: Yidi Cappe, Nasim Nunez, and Osiris Johnson who are in their 2nd tier of prospects and need a ton of at bats.
And like you mentioned, he's played a bunch already this year. Spend the offseason getting comfortable with 3b and get to AA early next year.
On the heels of a very good offensive debut, the Marlins are trying to turn Hostetler into a catcher.
Reports weren't glowing on his debut at third, so I like the move. Even if he becomes a true super utility who can play 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF, and C in a pinch, I think it gives him more appeal moving forward.
Even if they press ahead with Bennett only working at catcher, it's a position that's always in demand, and it's in short supply in the Marlins system. Joe Mack is 18 and hopefully the cather of the future, but outside of him, they have two AAAA catchers in Nick Fortes and Payton Henry and a defense only catcher in Will Banfield.
