People want all this creativity but do we have the personnel for it? Especially this year? We have 0 unproven WRs. 0 proven healthy TEs. Our strength is our Oline (one that is arguably the best in FCS history, at least before we lost two to season ending injuries). What happens if we put all this "creative" stuff on the passing game's shoulders when running the ball has worked wonderfully for us this year? What happens when "creative" ourselves into a multiple turnover game? Then we're all here saying Roehl shouldn't have gotten cute. Was Roehl responsible for all the missed passes to wide open players in the semi-final game? We had TEs open 15 yards downfield getting missed for a first down on 3rd and long. Good play design, poor execution. Is that the fault of Roehl's play calling?
Post game press conference in '19 championship game: Cignetti says we weren't expecting them to run the QB 30 times? That's creative. How we've used Luepke in the passing game the past two years? That's creative. They way we used Quincy at the end of the year last year? That's creative. Lining up in 5 wide and sending all 5 skills in presnap motion to confuse defensive gap assignments? That's creative. That's what creativity looks like in an NDSU west coast offense.
Messingham was Mozart. Every other OC we've had in the past 20 years is Roehl's level or worse. Just my opinion. All I'm saying is the championship game hasn't been played yet, let's see what we dial up when it counts.
Cheers bud
