Why is that important? The next play was the 3rd and 11 screen play where Derrick Lang slipped through for an 11.5 yard gain. That 2nd down spot could've been the difference between that drive being one of the greatest in program history or just a forgettable 3-and-out.
That Lang screen should get way more love than it does.

Yep, is was executed so well. Gimmestad and Haeg on the right side of the line sold it well but still got off their blocks to double team the LB who was responsible for Lang and just obliterated him. Billy Turner finishing his block on the K-State defender who eventually made the tackle also might've made the difference for those extra 1-2 feet that Lang needed to reach the 30 yard line and the first down sticks.

I always thought that spot was particularly generous, too, like at least close enough that they may want to measure, but they just gave it to em...

I think it was because they knew the 30 yard line was the first down. That was the first series after a touchback on a punt so the sticks would've been right at the 30 yard line. As long as the ball was at least touching the 30 yard line it was a first down.

For me this game is ahead of other FBS games for a couple of reasons. It was the first game of the year and highly anticipated as on FS1 as well. Weather was brutal and the smack talk about how we couldn't handle their Oline and the weather (cramping issues) and all sorts of stuff. They actually couldn't handle the weather and we had the deeper team. I thought we had finally lost in the third quarter and so had lots of other people but our team was made of champions and just took the game over from there.

This KSU team had a good year and destroyed Michigan in the bowl game (oh i know only FBS teams can improve throughout the year and we can't cause we beat them, what a joke).

By the time we went to Iowa I expected to win and still expect to win these games.
    If it flies it dies.

Long for the days of freezing in the south stands of Dacotah Field.

Yeah good point... in my head I always imagine that closer than it was because sometimes when you back into yardage like that, your butt hits the ground before your back, making the gain seem like a half a yard more than it is, but rewatching it, his butt hits right on the 30, so it was an obvious 1st down...

That play deserves more love and so does this one: The QB draw on 1st and 10 on their 36 where Jensen got smacked right at the line of scrimmage by a 300 lb DL and, between he and Colville, they pushed him back, and ran him over, and made it to the 28.

A KSU player came in late and high and hit that DL too, putting him out of the game and giving NDSU a free time out. BTW, KSU was really head hunting that game - obviously it was before targeting became a thing (not as bad as NDSU vs that poor Kansas TE though - NDSU's DBs almost took his head off a couple times.)

August 30th, 2013: North Dakota State @ Kansas State

It was a sweltering hot day in the Little Apple when the Bison came to town for the 2013 season opener looking for their most impressive win yet over an FBS team in their relatively short time in D1. K-State was coming off of a season where they were ranked in the top 10 for much of it and played in the Cotton Bowl but they had lost a lot from that team. NDSU, on the other hand, was a senior-laden group returning almost everyone from their back-to-back FCS national championship team. The game was unique in that it was played on a Friday night and was fledgling network FS1's second college football broadcast ever (the first was the night before). The Bison scored first but K-State rattled off 21 unanswered points and NDSU found themselves down 21-7 midway through the 3rd quarter. They responded with two scoring drives to close out the 3rd and make it anyone's game going into the 4th trailing only 21-17. After K-State's first drive of the 4th quarter stalled out just outside FG range NDSU took over at their own 20 yard with 8:58 left to play and proceeded to go on an epic 18 play, 8 minute and 30 second drive that included 4 third down conversions and ended with Brock Jensen backing into the endzone from a yard out for the game winning score with just 28 seconds left. It was K-State's first loss in a home opener since Bill Snyder's first season as their head coach in 1989. At the time the win was considered by many to be the biggest in program history and pushed NDSU football even more into the national spotlight which landed them a visit later in the season from ESPN's College Gameday.

Although the 2013 AssKicking at TCF vs Minnesota was awesome, as was beating #13 Iowa.

Better to get it out there on a boring Wednesday instead of on Saturday when #1 comes out and we all are doing better things than scouring Bisonville.

I think you could put any of my top 6 at #1 and not be wrong.

We had some fun on this trip!!

Side story: the day after the KState game, Lakes, NDSUfansav, me and another buddy decided to stop in Lincoln to checkout their tailgating on our way home. We were all wearing Bison gear walking around the tailgate lots and were treated like kings with all the food and drinks we could want. We were given four tickets to the UNL-Wyoming game and watched it from the sideline. It was beyond epic!
