Kirstin Tidd and Syra Tanchin both hit the ball really well today. Ali Mauch had some nice kills too.

Of the newcomers, transfer rFr Allie Scheiwiller was easily the star. She's 6'2" and moves really well for her size. She looks like a nice get up front. Taylor Quan was the only true freshman to play and she wasn't great. She looked tentative and had a rough start. With that said, she moves around really, really well and looks to be a good passer.

Senior Bella Lien was dressed, but didn't play at all. Ava Schmoll barely played and was behind Quan in the rotation today. Didn't get to see freshman Ali Hinze or Alex Lyle.

This team will go as far as Kelley Johnson takes them. She really struggled the first set, and they got blown out. She played better over the final three sets, but she can, and will need to, play better. The only other setter on the roster, Brianna Sharkey, was in a walking boot.

Overall, NDSU didn't play great by any means, but they still won. I'd be surprised if they don't sweep UND tomorrow.
    Thanks for the write-up!

Hinze was great today. Really calm out there and can deliver with accuracy and power. She's going to be really good. Between Tanchin, Bachmeier, Mauch, and Hinze, NDSU is loaded at OH. Tanchin is a powerful striker, and Bachmeier is a do it all glue player who never comes off the floor.

Bella Lien got the start today after not playing yesterday, and looked rusty. She was solid early defensively, but she wasn't a plus on offense. Her playing time today came at the expense of Allie Scheiwiller, who didn't play at all. Kirstin Tidd has been the one constant in the middle, which is interesting since she was 3rd in last year's rotation. She's hit the ball really well early on.

Allie Mauch was in for 1 point today, and delivered the match winning kill. Not sure if they just wanted to see Hinze in there, or if Mauch was banged up, but the OH rotation will be something to watch with NDSUs depth. Maggie Steffen only got into the game to serve, while Alex Lyle didn't play again.

Kaylee Hangar has looked a touch off early in the year. She is great at delivering accurate passes, but she has looked a step slow in getting to some balls. Taylor Quan wasn't great again today, but she just moves so well out there. Schmoll was third in the libero rotation again, and barely played.

I thought Kelley Johnson played better today too. She was decisive in her reads and was more accurate with her passes today. She also had some really nice plays at the net, which was very surprising. If she can consistently deliver accurate passes to Tanchin, Hinze, and Bachmeier on time, this team will be very hard to beat.

Thanks for this write up, and for the Friday's match write-up. We were at the Friday match and your write-up was spot-on. Bison ladies are fun to watch and fun to root for!

NDSU loses the 5th set to UMKC 15-13 and falls 3-2.

Bachmeier and Lien had some really bad hitting percentages today. Kirstin Tidd was really efficient again and Hinze led them in kills and attacks.

I still don't think any of the three liberos are playing all that well.

NDSU blows a 21-17 lead and loses set 1 27-25. Way too many errors and some bad late passes by Johnson.

Johnson played really well until late in that set. Mauch made too many errors. They also became very predictable late forcing their OH and Bachmeier. Tidd is so efficient, she needs more attacks.

I want Syra Tanchin in there.

They blow a big lead late in the 2nd set and lose 27-25 again. They absolutely should be up 2-0, but they've played tight, bad volleyball late in each set and trail 2-0.

Taylor Quan not only had her best set of her young career IMO, she had the best set of any NDSU libero this year.

Tanchin replaced Mauch that set and delivered 4 kills. She was set up with some really bad feeds, but was still able to put some good swings on them.

Absolutely horrendous 3rd set and NDSU gets swept. Bachmeier played really porrly and the overall passing, both on digs and sets was really awful.

This team can't win with that passing and that level of play from Bachmeier. Outside of Quan, I didn't think anybody played very well. Tidd did in a limited role, but Hinze was invisible late in sets.

Alli Schomers was great at setter for UMKC. Having a setter that big, that consistent, and that smart is a huuuuuuuge plus for them.
