One thing that was easier for Purdy this year is he don’t have to look over his shoulder and wonder if I make a mistake I am being pulled. Some will say trade Trey just for this reason and pickup an experienced backup. Even if Trey makes 8 and Purdy 1 that’s only nine and way cheaper than any other team that usually makes it deep in the playoffs.

That's an expensive backup

SF takes a big cap hit regardless. 10 million i think. I dont have an idea what they will do, but they can't really offload the cap impact very cleanly as far as I know.

I dont think Trey really had to worry. They bailed on Jimmy. It wasn't like he took over through injury. They were probably willing to take some lumps and let Trey learn.

Regardless, his career has been a disaster thus far...through little-no fault of his own

I was talking more in regard to Purdy next year as the starter and keeping Trey as the backup.

I don't think so, but lets see.
If Kyle wanted him QB1, he would have been in year 1 as the 3rd overall pick. Very rare you draft a QB at #3 and don't start him year 1.
Something wasn't right with him obviously.
Kyle S knows a thing or 2, so I wouldn't question him, he won with Brock Purdy, who nobody wanted.

They would save millions if they cut or traded him. Mostly if they cut him. (obviously they won't do either, nor should they, but just saying they can save alot)
