I like how they always say kids slip through the cracks to excuse it. Trey wasn't slipping through the cracks, they offered him a scholarship to play a different position. It wasn't like a Brock Jensen type of guy that came out of nowhere or even Carson Wentz. Their staff flat out screwed up on evaluating him.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.
I've read that Shanahan feels that he just needs a "Steady Eddy" at QB rather than someone who can fly or flop. Steady Eddy Mac Jones will be able to work the Shanahan offense to perfection. Some say Shanahan doesn't necessary want a QB that'll take chances.
I've also read that Shanahan's opinions on such things has evolved.
My conclusion is: Who knows!?!?!
My own feeling is that you wouldn't trade up to #3 if you were going to replace your guy (Jimmy G) with another guy (Jones) almost just like him. I'm not sure why Fields doesn't seem to be on their radar anymore but to me it would seem to be a battle between him and Trey. As much as a homer as I am, I'd probably go with Fields, though.
Insert something clever here...
Regardless of who said what, in my eyes, it makes no sense to trade up a bunch to get Mac fkin Jones when he would most likely be avail further down.
Regardless, I'll be pumped hearing Trey's name called no matter where he goes.
The media scouts didn't have him very high but that doesn't mean much. From what I've heard most NFL teams had it Lawrence/Wilson, but after that there was a mix of how they ranked the next three. If SF thought Mac Jones was a clear three, it's quite likely another team also viewed it that way.
And if you believe a guy can be your franchise QB, imo, you go get him with whatever it takes. Drafting Mahomes was lucky, not smart. Every NFL team would have gave the world now for him.
