Default Andrew Morgan 6 8 Commit

Andrew Morgan 6 8 Waseca MN

    Iowa offered on June 23
Appalachian State, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State are the early offers from Morgan, and there's a lot of upside with Morgan's frame at 6-foot-8 in the interior.

"Morgan is one of the most naturally gifted rebounders out there," wrote James. "Morgan averaged a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds a game for the Bluejays this year playing on the state's second-ranked AA team. Finished the season with 35 vs Minneapolis North in a win. Morgan has the look of a Big Ten power forward in frame and agility, He rebounds in big numbers and gets off the ground quickly to finish. Morgan has skills to add but progress has been made there. A 6-foot-8 power forward offered by SDSU and NDSU

Very Marshall Bjorklund-like who can drain 3's watching his video from 2019 >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01n29UoNP-o

SDSU and Iowa offers no longer committable as SDSU got Lien and Iowa got Stanford to commit at the same position but it nice to know he other offers besides us. I wonder if that offer to the Chicago land forward, increased the urgency of him committing to us. A solid recruit for us.

He will be definitely going to be a rotation guy and somebody who will be committed to rebounding at a high level! At this point of his career his skill level is closer to pre-injury Chris Kading than Marshall B. with a little more athlete in him. He will try to dunk everything. A good commit that comes from a competitive school team and conference (3AAA Minnesota basketball and Heat AAU team).

    Awesome news!
    Rocky’s roster replacement?
Unless Rocky plays a 5th year with Covid eligibility changes?
Played Summer league ball with Bison legacy Will Tschetter (Michigan commit).

For 247 subscribers, Ryan James talks of Andrew Morgan being a possible back-up plan for da gophers if they have an unexpected need for size in the signing class of 2021.
(Minnesota has commits from 4 Star big Treyton Thompson and 3 star Kenny Pohto)(and they are still dreaming on All-World Chet Holmgren)

Have seen mention of the need for work on his mid-range game. He certainly is an inside force in his highlights! The Bison already have potential young stretch-4’s (6’ 9” Noah Christensen, 6’ 10” Grant Nelson) so Morgan could be very complementary to that.

Edit: Forgot to mention the 247 article includes 6’ 9” Patrick Bath (2023), who played for Shanley locally last season but has now transferred to Totino-Grace in the Twin Cities

Looks like a nice player. I like that he has some traditional post play and yet it looks like he can step back and shoot a jumper. Looks tough and will be strong rebounder and hopefully defender.

That’s fair , but I believe the Iowa offer was on the table and it was likely down to NDSU, St Thomas and Iowa... Rationale :
    1) Iowa - intriguing for any HS kid , big ten , high major , falls into the I’ll take the highest offer I get bucket...
    2) St Thomas - coached by John Tauer , Morgan’s AAU Coach for the past two years under which he flourished and developed .. comfort with a coach and relationship can’t be undervalued in recruiting ... likely play and contribute right away
    3) NDSU - academic fit , it’s well documented Morgan was looking for a school with an AG program , successful mid major ( yes classify as mid major considering the sustained success of the Bison in terms of making the tournament. Position need, ndsu needs a defensive big that can rebound and play in the P&R game . Christianson and Nelson have length but as mentioned on this board are more stretch 4’s and could argue Nelson at 3 potentially with his skills and ability to shoot the three. Also it is rumored that Kyan Brown has done an amazing job recruiting and connecting with Bigs in the recruiting process. Lastly , Andrew is ready to play in the summit league day one physically and with Rocky’s graduation there are significant minutes ...

So with that context , the decision likely came down to .... Academic fit , confidence from the recruit he could play/ contribute right away , relationship with Brown and Richman.. No doubt Andrew has the physical tools to play in the Big Ten but there would need to be a lot of development and that coupled with academic fit likely tipped the tables to the Bison
