Seriously, NDSU's solution to one of the most recent funding crises was and across the board funding cut which would have jeopardized accreditation of some programs. You have to be willing to shut down unprofitable programs and lay off staff......it is the only way when this happens.

On a macro level, many small public schools need to close or become very highly specialized in a small area or study.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, in the state with the same amount of $$, 15 % fewer people, and 35 % more public schools …

Since when were public universities supposed to be profitable?

This is nothing to do with being profitable and everything to do with providing a reasonably priced higher education to the students of the state they serve.

Yeah, NDSU in particular I'd like to see a focus on doing the basics well. If that means cutting fringe programs then it is what it is.

We are NDSU of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. I didn't go for anything falling under that umbrella, but those programs shouldn't suffer to keep more fringe things around if push comes to shove.

That may be a strawman argument though.

It's almost a certainty that programs are going to have to be cut, but you have to cut in such a way that those students stay at NDSU, in other programs...if you push them to other schools, then you lose tuition right away and state funds in the next biennium and the downward cycle continues....

Star Tribune had huge story of U of Minn violence /unrest in mpls affecting them.

On twitter/Facebook I saw no less than 20 posts saying "that's why we are sending our daughter/son up to NDSU this fall"

NDSU needs a marketing push RIGHT NOW in the cities and capitalize on this

Only stabbings by random naked women and meth heads with mental issues... or how about the greywind or the girl cut in half and thrown in a dumpster? Safety isn't really our strong suit right now
