NDSU absolutely dropped the ball recruiting/marketing in 16/17 and didn't do the little things other schools did.

NDSU lost dozens if not hundreds of students because of their antiquated admissions process.

Many Minnesota schools allowed students to apply and be accepted in minutes, a la rocket mortgage with verification to come later.

NDSU made them sit around for months.

--No doubt kids bored in October applied to St Cloud State for the hell of it, got it and never looked back.

Also, continued to charge a $35 admission fee, which has since be shelved.

They also had a recruiter (or two?) quit just before a huge college fair in the Twin Cities, which ended up being tremendously understaffed.

They also didn't take advantage of MODERN CRM style marketing, which MNSCU started using aggressively. Not actively marketing, tracking interactions, process towards applying, selection, and matriculation.

--And it took 'em a year to figure this out. Craziness.

Each student is probably $25,000 in income at the margin. We lost 'em for a $35 fee or behaving like a bureaucracy.

A great case study in not innovating.

Just curious, but why would you now select Ames?

Good points. Applying for a mortgage appeared to be easier than applying to NDSU. I got approved for a mortgage the same day. What a bunch of dolts. I know some schools stopped requiring ACT scores. I think NDSU was last to the party.

And not only is the 25K lost in income, it's the layoffs at the school because of less revenue. Then you got higher vacancy rates and less kids spending money. Less future residents. Businesses find the community less appealing with less students to recruit from.

This really needs to stop. There is no reason we can't increase enrollment. It sounds like they just got arrogant, lazy, and complacent. Well this is the end result. Time to fix it. NDSU is selling a product and service... that means we need sales people or recruiters.

My oldest is a senior and has applied to a few schools: NDSU and UND - no fee, SDSU-$125, Minnesota - $55, Michigan State - $65.

Also, not sure how we got on their list but Montana State sends a ton of emails including how to apply for scholarships. They are very proactive with their recruiting.
The white jerseys are the best. Don't even bother to argue.
