Adding 30,000 online students and a 150% increase in donations in 6 years helps.

I believe they've also increased their international and out of state percentage and reduced in state. It's actually very hard to get in there for Indiana residents. My son had a 4.2 GPA with a 1400 SAT and didn't get accepted!

But maintaining tuition rates is still a great accomplishment for President Mitch Daniels.

Not sure what’s happened in recent years but according to an Atlantic story I was pursuing at least for the first six years they’d maintained the ratio of in-state, out-state and international students in the undergraduate population. Could very well be a different story now though.

I knew Purdue was very selective but that’s a little nuts!

Tough decision must be made or some of these universities will enter a death spiral. (funding cut from state and tuition funds due to less students, leading to tuition increases to cover funding cut driving away more students, necessitating a tuition raise, etc....) Students are finally understand taking on a ton of debt for a worthless degree is dumb.

Seriously, NDSU's solution to one of the most recent funding crises was and across the board funding cut which would have jeopardized accreditation of some programs. You have to be willing to shut down unprofitable programs and lay off staff......it is the only way when this happens.

On a macro level, many small public schools need to close or become very highly specialized in a small area or study.
