Default Covid 19 will be the dividing line between the have and have nots in FCS.

With the news that the Big Sky has opted out of football, one has to think this isn't sitting well with the Montana's and maybe EWU. There seems to be a huge riff developing between the upper tier of the the FCS and the rest. I can't see the Valley moving forward at this point. Who is going to vote yes to play? NDSU and SDSU are locks with ISUr USD and UNI "maybe's" while the rest will be solid no's.

The top tier should absolutely grab the bull by the horns and create a 1 year super conference and petition the NCAA to declare them bowl eligible since there won't be an FCS playoff. It would give the MAC, CUSA and Sun Belt schools a reason to schedule us this year as they won't be limited to the two FCS win limits that were allowed to count towards bowl eligibility.

    Super conference

    NDSU
    SDSU
    Illinois State
    Montana
    Montana State
    JMU
    Sam Houston

    EWU?
    UNI?
    USD?
    UCA?
    ?
    ?

Thoughts? Even if we proceeded with this idea and the season gets shutdown anyway, it drives a mssive wedge between the above and the teacher/basketball/hockey schools that make up the rest of the FCS. That's a good thing and will hopefully elevate us to the upper side of the split when it happens.

Fun to speculate. Unfortunately only NDSU and maaaaaaybe JMU have the athletic departments to pull something like this off. EWU lol, they have like 3 full time employees in their athletic department.

If there was more runway for this to take off it could’ve been possibe maybe. We’re a month away from games starting

It’s a game of dominoes and NDSU is not going to make a premature move. When the P5 separates then we can start the discussion with the G5 schools about the new parameters for NCAA DI football.

It's a one year thing and would basically gives us a dry run of what it would be like in a G5 conference. We could probably run the idea by Liberty and NMSU and they might be on board. Listen, FCS football is looking super sketchy for 2020 at this point, let's milk what we can out of it.
