If I understood it correctly, St. Thomas gets an extra year of FCS purgatory for moving up from D3 rather than D2... so that's 2026.

someone explain the logic of keeping teams that moved up out of the playoffs for a certain number of years, even if they would normally have qualified.

Explain it to me like I am 5
    1. The FCS was the Best option for NDSU for a very long time.
    2. As a general rule- the FCS sucks at football and has proven that is not committed to football at all.
    3. It's time to go FBS

That's the way it's always been done.

Or, in the words of your parents, "because."

IIRC, the rationale is that the NAIA, DIII, and DII have laxer rules about eligibility and stuff so they want the entire pre-DI roster to filter through. It's also supposed to give the athletic department time to get into compliance with DI standards.

I think that if NDSU had moved to DI in the '90s, it'd have been a 2-year transition.

I've always assumed it was somewhat of a deterrent to make sure you are committed because you are agreeing to no tournament for X years. Otherwise you might have more teams moving to that really aren't ready.

Kind of like the financial advice columnist who tells people to put their credit cards in a block of ice in the freezer so you have time to decide if you really want to charge that money while you are running hot water over your ice to get to the card. Or me hiding the Halloween candy in the back of the pantry instead of putting in in bowl that I see every time I go in the kitchen.
It's OK to not be OK.

If we played our starters, we could have scored 100

We scored 57 and Zeb played in the 3rd and Noah Sanders in the 4th. We threw 3 passes in the 2nd half and played our 3rd string defense

I more realistic comparison is losing to UNI 44-3+. St Thomas would lose to Western Illinois by at least 4 TDs
I had Butler the week before against Taylor and they scored a school record 77 points! Backed it up with an 0fer. St. Thomas must be pretty good this year.
