I don't think the students have ever contributed zero to the athletic program (at least the past 50 years). Where did you get that idea?

What an uninformed take. The student government contributes to the athletic department every year. They make the decision and the $$$$ come from a portion of the student fees. Where did you get your information?

NDSU's student body does contribute a good chunk of change to the athletic department ($1.5M in 2018) but they do get a pretty good "deal" with what they get out of it compared to most students whose schools are at the FCS and G5 levels.

As you can see some schools *cough*JMU!*cough* fund a big part of their athletic budget using student fees while only about 5% of NDSU Athletics' revenue comes from student fees.

NDSU need to raise MORE student fees for athletics. our athletics give those kids more clout with their diploma, might even raise an eyebrow of an exec in an interview if they are a football fan.
