LB was considered a strength of last year’s recruiting class

    Luke Weerts - 6’ 1” 215 who played
    Dylan Hendricks - 6’ 3” 225
    Nick Kubitz - 6’ 2” 202

Nice set of LB’s right there, good depth,
should be some fun competition this spring.

Yep—next man up. Not like we didn’t win games without Cox last season when he was out.

What's up with Mark Stumpf? No stats in 2019 as a RFr. Was he hurt?

Yes, but I don't know the details.

I agree. Unfortunately we don't have any 6-3 233 pounders who can fly to the football and crush running backs and cover a top receiver and run back picks like Marcus Williams.

But we will be fine. Plenty of talent on the roster and the defense is talented overall

I want to see what Weerts, and Hendricks can do. I love Merc to death but he is a bit slow IMO and not ideal size for a LB although he does the job well.

It should be an interesting spring. The fastest linebacker on the team (according to high school 100 meter times) is Mitchell Kartes, at 10.96. Jasir Cox is close behind at 11.2.
Speed isn't everything but it can make up for some mistakes. Hopefully, Ross Uglem and Bison 1660 will get some interviews with position coaches this spring.

Kartes was a safety / running back in high school but he's your classic play down a position guy. He is fast for a safety but super fast for a linebacker. He injured his knee in high school but came back and ran an 11.27 the next track season. You always lose a little speed when you tear an acl

Weerts is a mike backer, the same position as Hankey, who looked pretty damn good for year 1. Dylan Hendricks is a heck of an athlete with great size too. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. Mercadel was coming off of a blown out knee and it usually takes a full season to recover so I expect him to come back better than ever. Gotta remember we also used Kaczor as a play down strong safety/ linebacker and he was pretty good. Jasir looks solid and Stumpf looks very similar to MJ

This is my impression as well.
