I'm not arguing it's the right choice. But saying there is no upside is wrong. There could be a 16 million dollar upside. Going from 10-1 isn't moving a lot pi c k wise but the dollars are crazy

And what happens when the next phenom QB comes out and becomes QB2 or 3? A year ago, nobody thought Joe Burrow could be the number one pick. A year before that, Kyler Murray was unknown.

Get your money while you can.

I sincerely think a lot of this forum doesn't comprehend how much money 10 million dollars plus is.

Oh, and let's not forget that IF you get picked first overall, you're probably going to a team with a shit O line, and a bad defense that means if you're gonna win, you better throw it 35 times a game.

That may very well be true, but a better and more relevant question may be, is an NFL team ready to draft him round 1? If the answer is yes, he is gone.

It's always in the players interest to be as well prepared for the NFL as possible when they arrive, being a first rounder and playing 4 seasons and being a first rounder and playing 12 seasons are very different propositions

Of course, but unless he goes to the right team that can develop him, it could get ugly.

All the projections are probably assuming he progressively got better. You need practice to do that. Carson Wentz was arguably not NFL ready until his senior year and he was much older and experienced.

    McShay Espn's 2021 mock draft

    14. Chicago Bears
Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State*

Lance is big, athletic and tough, and he absolutely dominated the FCS last season. He threw zero interceptions on nearly 300 pass attempts in 2019 and offered dual-threat production, rushing for 50-plus yards in nine of his 16 games. The Bears need a guy they can build around, and they can't afford to whiff this time. Chicago's thoughts on Mitchell Trubisky were made clear when it didn't give him his fifth-year option and signed a soon-to-be 32-year-old Foles who is coming off an injury-plagued, poor 2019 season. Lance is a third-year sophomore with some questions still to be answered -- including whether he'd want to declare for the draft at all -- but the Bears would love to get this talented signal-caller in the middle of the first round based on his ceiling.
