This. He can actually get quite a bit better, and as much as some would scoff at it, NDSU is qb U. The combination of the offense we run along with the qb coaching have made this program as good at developing QBs as pretty much anyone out there. If Trey continues to improve he has a great shot at being one of the first guys off the board right here where he is at.

Then why doesn't this rule apply to softball, field hockey, etc., and is only limited to men's or women's basketball, football, and baseball?
It's OK to not be OK.

Any rule like this would be wrong. Hope the NCAA is smarter than that, but then history says different.
Hatred towards NDSU has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with with being consistent. The NCAA allows other team sport athletes to transfer. Why should a FB player be hamstrung if he wants to go to another school when he sees he wont be playing at his current school? The present rule is all about having the power to dictate where an athlete can and cant play.

Ok, concern is about impact to the team / money sports. This isn't some free market thing. Players commit to schools and it should mean something. Just like employers protect positions that involve key aspects of future business / revenue often have employees sign documents that say they will not directly leave to go work for a competitor in their research field, etc. Maybe these docs are not legally enforceable but the question is how much of an employee's knowledge and expertise is developed by a company due to the companies resources? Same goes for a football or basketball player......if they go to a competitor success and revenue is affected.

The possible rule change would have the most impact on football teams ike NDSU that get more good players than most FCS teams and develops them into great FCS, or very good FBS level players. FCS teams wouldn't shed a tear seeing NDSU dropped down a notch, and the FBS teams would welcome a way to steal players we develop. Other than fans that have jumped on the NDSU bandwagon, most of college football despises, or is at least very jealous of NDSU's success.

I agree with this and ‘Nater’s post for the most part, but I’m not convinced the NFL won’t go after him a year early if he does improve.

I disagree that the rule would be much of an impact on NDSU. Maybe other FCS and G5 schools that get maybe one or two players that could play at a P5 school after a year or two of development. With NDSU, as long as the program is successful and the culture is strong, most of the kids want to stay. Those that have left were to get playing time at a smaller division school.

The kids would still have to enter the transfer portal for any of this to be valid. If all of this were to happen. I still think that most kids especially a kid like Trey with the coaching and experience he’s getting here at NDSU will stay put. Carson paved the way for future Bison QBs like Trey and Easton to be in the spotlight of NFL scouts. Transferring to and as FBS would not help in any way IMHO. If you can be a #2 overall draft pick from NDSU playing our schedule.

The NFL doesn't go after anyone. That's his decision.

Sorry, what I meant is that there is a lot of buzz and interest from teams and he is tempted to declare early.
