Had they even invented the forward pass yet?

The scoring was different too. TDs and FGs were both 5 pts in 1899. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histor...#Scoring_table

No score prediction. We need to come out of this one with no injuries and a win.
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Doubtful, even if it was it wasn’t universally embraced at that point.

I just know I’ve seen enough 6-4 scores without any touchdowns from that era

I remember almost not going because I had mmoentarily passed out from coughing so hard a day or two before and ended up at the ER. Then we went into the game, only to come out to the parking lot and find that our "designated driver" had consumed most of a bottle of Jack. Good times.

I am pretty sure the last college football team to win 16 games in a single season was Amos Alonzo Stagg's Chicago Maroons who went 16-0-2 in 1899 including 4 wins over high school teams: https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...-schedule.html
Yeah, I believe 4 of those games (probably the high school games) were exhibitions. Their wiki page shows the 1899 season as 12-0-2 (and Big 10 champs!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Maroons_football

The only team I can find with 16 wins in a season was 1894 Yale: http://www.bisonville.com/fanguide/1894/team000755.html
