Serious question. Why doesn’t NDSU MBB use the same process as Football and play your best players?

Also, I see peeps saying they aren’t shooting to potential. What are the personal percentages compared to team output, from a historical perspective. Have to use averages of course.

Not all that far off. Appears we have won games we should have and lost or been close in others.

Also, how do those percentages compare to other NCAA Teams who play a similar offense? I’m thinking less that 35% 3-point attempts isn’t that solid. If it is, then that’s a good reason why I and others have a difficult time watching college BB.

I goofed up Eady and Griesel's 2018/19 numbers and mixed their FG percentage up with their 3PT percentage. Fixed them in the above post. But 36.5% is pretty good for an entire team. They were 62nd out of 335 D1 teams in 2018/19 as a team at 36.7% whereas this year they're 213th out of 335 shooting it at 30.4% (not sure why the site I found isn't the same as the GoBison stats page but they're pretty close being only 0.2% and 0.6% off).

    https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-ba...hree-point-pct

Statistically shooting 36.7% from 3 equates to shooting 55.1% from 2 which is pretty good. Shooting 30.4% from 3 only equates to 45.6% from 2 so not so good. That's basically an extra 9-10 points per 50 shots. It may not seem like much but it's significant. Obviously the rankings compared to their peers is way down this year as well which is concerning to me. NDSU probably shoots more 3s than the average D1 team so if you're shooting it more than other teams yet shooting it at a worse percentage than two thirds of those other teams it's not going to be a very efficient offense in comparison to others.

I’d accept career averages as a better indicator. Things normally come back to base/normality, although I’m not a math guy.

And per 50 shots? As that per-player or team? If player, that’s a shitload of shots, and plenty per-team really. Again, not good at math, but just seems crazy to me.

I'd expect the shooting averages to improve from last year to this one especially on a team that returns everyone except for Geu and Horn who weren't 3 point specialists themselves. Maybe their 3 point shooting last year was an anomaly. If that's the case that Richman running the program into the ground thread will take up about 75% of the posts on this board for the rest of the season.

Yep, Quayle needs as many minutes as possible. Not enough purple in the world.

One key piece of information is missing here. The 3 point line moved back from last year to this year by 16+ inches so making the comparison from last year more difficult. Most people expect 3 point percentages to go down a couple of percent on average this year. It will take a while for the players to adjust to the new distance.

"The distance is now 22 feet, 1¾ inches — 16.75 inches farther than the line was for the 2018-19 season." https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/...231214278.html
