Default 2019 Next Up: The SIU Salukis

The Salukis are winners of 5-straight MVFC games with an average score of 38-17.

They have the second-best rushing defense in the MVFC, while NDSU dropped to 3rd in conference rushing defense.

On the plus side, their QB (Lyles) doesn't appear to be a rushing threat. On the minus side, they are very effective when they put Javon Williams in the wildcat - and that seems to be something that NDSU's defense would be pretty vulnerable to.

The weather report is not promising so hopefully it gets better before game day... rainy and cold is hard on the body.

Javon Williams will present some problems. He's a mini Derrick Henry listed at 6'1" 239 and he's not just a bruiser, he can make tacklers miss and outrun tacklers that take poor angles. This will be a good test for NDSU since they're allowing 183.5 rushing yards per game over their last 4 games (a lot of garbage time yards in the last 3 though) and SIU is every bit as good running the ball as any of those teams except probably SDSU.

National Weather Service says 45 and partly sunny. Doesn’t sound so bad to me.

We've been beating up on the bottom half of the conference for the past five weeks and although we're greatly improved over recent years we aren't likely to stand in the way of an undefeated season for more than a half. I do think that we would match up well against SDSU or IlSU in a rematch since they were the first two starts for the backup QB and limited what we could do. SEMO too. What I'm hoping for is to keep it within two scores and play well enough against the National Champions to impress the selection committee. We could make some noise in the early rounds if we get in.

7-5 with an FBS win should get SIU in. I do agree that they will be a tough opponent in the playoffs, especially non valley teams. Maybe you will get UND on thanksgiving and will have a drastic increase in your fanbase with Bison Nation jumping on the bandwagon!

This comment can be heard almost continually whilst attending a tailgate session at TOHBTC (sep from TAB).

Actually it is great to see you guys performing at a higher level again. It makes the conference season more interesting. Do you still remember the 9-0 game in Carbondale years ago? Drago had an ~85 yard punt, which was easily the play of the game for us.

Edit: I’ll also point out that this game was a major motivator for our coaching staff to recruit differently. You guys rotated lots of defensive lineman, and Craig Bohl recognizes it as something we must do to compete at a high level. Over the next several years they developed better depth, especially on the DL, and the rest is history. I mark that game down as a defining moment in Bison history based on the impact it had on our coaching staff
