As this thread is wandering let me add: Last night I watched 10 minutes of the Boise St bowl game. A player is on the sidelines in tears with his knee wrapped. The ESPN announcer states "This poor kid, he loses his dad in 2017 and than this past April his mom dies of cancer, AND NOW THIS!!!" Meaning, he can't play the final game of his career injured. MY wife was in the room (not a sports fan), she looked up at me and we both shook our heads... Then, to make it worse, the same announcer two minutes later brings up the analogy again of this kid's parents both dying in the past two years and compares it to 'missing the rest of his final bowl game'. I have no idea who won the game, CHANNEL TURNED. We are a nation of sports idiots for sure...

Why would you categorize sports fans with the idle prattle of a talking head trying to fill air time?

Yeah I would read this more as “adding insult to injury” than equating...

One must also remember who we are dealing with.

I think you're way off base on the point of what was said. It was one more bad thing to happen to this kid which was correct and brought a tear to my eye. If you don't think football matters to someone who spends almost everyday of his life for 4 or 5 years then you clearly don't understand the effort and sacrifice these kids make. To have your last game taken away from you and having to rehab by the way is clearly a big deal that you don't understand.

This. I doubt the announcer was comparing it to the death of his parents as being on the same level.

BTW, with this game being on ABC, I should be able to get a good, 1080i version of the game ripped from my Tablo.

Has there been any confirmation on who will be calling the game?
