Default 2020 FCS Championship game on ABC

This is a big deal for national exposure. Games on network TV draw better than ESPN2. It's still not a great time slot, but it's tough to find many games that have less than 2 million viewers.

Now all ESPN/Disney/ABC needs are two known teams* to make it there and have a hell of a game!

*And by that i mean NDSU and JMU/Villanova/SDSU.

This is GREAT! Vastly grows the audience going from ESPN 2 to ABC. People who don't have satellite or cable can now watch it free over the the air with an antenna! Time to pop out the ol' rabbit ears!

Wonder who will do the broadcast?

That is great for the Bison and for the FCS. I bet we're still stuck with the 11 AM game though, with NFL playoffs later in the day.

11am on ABC that time of year is a good time slot. A lot of smucks sitting home farting into their couches with nothing else to do. No other FB games on that time of day either. Go Bison, get there again!!!

Yeah, 11AM CT is probably a better TV spot on a Saturday than say 2PM CT. For fans who are there the latter is much better but it is what it is. This is a major step in the right direction from ESPN towards investing in the product that is the FCS playoffs. There was a baby step last year as well when they moved the Saturday semifinal from ESPNU to ESPN2. Hopefully this continues because the more eyeballs on FCS playoffs games the more valuable it becomes and the more valuable it becomes the less regionalized it can become and hopefully it can ultimately evolve into more of a true tournament.

I dont think it will ever be less regionalized to be honest. It is traditionally an Ohio and east/Southern subdivision with the Midwest only gaining momentum in the last decade. Before the NCC move ups, there were no FCS programs in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Michigan. Quite a few of those states still don't have a program and likely never will until there is some sort of reorganization. Add to that, the only programs in Missouri and Texas have traditional been not good with very little fan support and "look like D2 football." The only notable exception I can think of is West Texas A&M who has bounced between 1A and DII for the last 50 years. So other than that there was a huge gap in territory and generations of fans who grew up thinking of 1AA as a joke. The Mountain time zone teams have had some success with Boise State, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington having won Championships. However, those states Football programs don't register a blip in the Midwest or on either coast for the casual football fans. Boise caught lightening in a bottle and led an Exodus of the better FCS programs into FBS with Idaho and Nevada quickly following them. Nevada has sustained some success while Idaho completely destroyed it's program. NDSU has helped changed the dynamic of the FCS in the Midwest by winning 7 of the last 8 championships while knocking off a pile of FBS programs in the process. However, I just can't imagine the subdivision will ever catch on like it should.

Selfishly I love the 11am time slot. I hate waiting around...

    ...let’s get there first, though...
