May want to do it a couple times. It does work but warn everybody that you care about in the room and the adjacent room about the smell of vinegar steam.

I run straight water through it a couple times after the vinegar solution. Mostly gets rid of it

Orrrrrrrrrrr, just get and use a French press and microwave the water to pour into it. (Alternatively you can use your single burner backpacking stove and stand outside while heating/steeping so as to have that “roughing it” experience.
