They had the most votes ever for an FCS school in the AP Poll after that Iowa game. They got 74 points which was good for 27th in the nation. To be fair, App St wasn't eligible for the AP Poll after their historic upset of Michigan in 2007... that game was actually the impetus behind allowing AP Poll voters to vote for FCS teams since many voters wanted to vote for App St after that game but couldn't.
IIRC they got a couple votes for a good chunk of 2014 after beating Iowa St and before losing to UNI. I don't think they've gotten any votes after winning titles the last 2 years so this would be the first time they've gotten a vote in the AP Poll since the week before they lost to SDSU in 2016.
You can go back and look at all the historical AP Polls at collegepollarchive.com. This is what it looked like the week after NDSU beat Iowa: http://collegepollarchive.com/footba...7#.XbcL8OTsYpU

7 Mo valley teams! Can we share this with voters? Why can't they understand an NDSU loss needs to be treated like an FBS loss? It is nuts anyone has SDSU any lower than 3.
Slot voting plain and simple. The two main tenets:
1) You can't move down if you win.
2) You must move down if you lose.
Which means no team moves up unless a team ranked ahead of them loses but that's beside the point for this debate.
The unfortunate reality is slot voting appears to be very prevalent in the national polls by STATS and Coaches poll voters. SDSU did "only" move down one to #4 in the STATS poll and two to #5 in the Coaches (still #3 in the AGS Poll though).
Yep, that is my problem right there. Yet, these same yahoos say you should not drop if you lose an FBS game. I just can't wrap my mind around it.....its like they can't understand there is much less shame in a loss to NDSU than say Nevada. You can't make this shit up.
One thing to keep in mind is just how rich our information flow is regarding the conditions outside our conference. I believe our media coverage is unprecedented in the FCS. I just finished listening to The Insiders where I picked up a number of nuggets of info regarding other conferences and their teams. I believe many of these voters either do not have the access to this level of information or are either too busy or too lazy to access it if they do. Thus they really have no idea just how good NDSU actually is.
I am amazed that every year there is at least one team fan base in the playoffs that comes on here and proclaims that we have never seen the likes of whatever their flavor of the day is. Examples last year the Colgate defense or Montana State Troy Andersen. Ah, yep, OK. Not hard for me to believe the voters outside the MVFC have the same level of ignorance or nearly so as their fan base.

Don't believe everything you think.
A loss to NDSU is an FBS loss for other FCS teams. The fact that the committee still hasnt accepted this as 100% truth is mind boggling to me.
On a different note, The CAA is the best FCS conference and its not even close. HAVE YOU HEARD OF STONY BROOK?!?!?!
1. The FCS was the Best option for NDSU for a very long time.
2. As a general rule- the FCS sucks at football and has proven that is not committed to football at all.
3. It's time to go FBS
I did this a couple weeks ago and found it interesting(and fun, mostly because it doesn't take much time)
Based on the top 25 FCS teams according to Saragin which conference is the best?
CONFERENCE | # OF TEAMS | AVERAGE RANKING | MEDIAN RANKING
MVFC | 7 | 10.71 | 10
Big Fluffy | 6 | 9.67 | 12
CAA | 5 | 15.8 | 19
Having a 7th team in the top 25 actually hurt MVFC's average ranking compared to two weeks ago. Without USD and just taking into account the top 6 MVFC teams the average would be 8.67, this gets even better if you only take into account the top 5 teams from each of the three conferences(since CAA only has 5). MVFC would have an average of 7 and Big Sky 8 while CAA stays at 15.8.
Anyway, not sure any of this means anything other than consistently showing the CAA is NOT the best conference and that the Big Fluffy with it's dozens of teams manages to have a strong showing.
