He can't just admit that the bar he was setting to overcome his preseason hunch was unreasonably high. No one was asking him to be an NDSU Homer, just to evaluate the wins and loses and base his rankings on that moreso than his preseason analysis of returning starters and his guess that NDSU will lose a game over the next couple months. And he still brings that up?! Who cares if you THINK NDSU will lose a game at some point in the future. If they do adjust you rankings then instead of trying to justify your current rankings because of something you think might happen in the future.

And he could be right. Big deal. Today's rankings should be based on the current bodies of work though and not his guess on what the future might bring. I'll grant some of that thinking is needed for preseason polls and for the first few games, but not this far into the season.
