Payton 4th in the shot. Thomson 15th as a freshman, Talley 19th as a soph. Bright future for the Herd. I'm sure Payton is disappointed. Spectacular career for the future Bison Hall of Famer. Not enough T&F studs in there IMO.

It will be once renovations are finished at Hayward Field. It's a cool place for the NCAAs.

I wonder what circumstances caused Payton to have a best throw of only 65' 3 1/4"? (1st attempt)
He had 4 fouls in 6 attempts. His only other mark was only 62' 8 3/4" (his 5th throw)...Clearly, something significant was going on.

I've been wonder if some minor injury has been nagging him for a while now. He threw 70'+ at that invitational in California 6 weeks ago which would've been good enough for the title in Austin. I'm assuming that he'll be working towards the 2020 Olympic trials now moving forward so hopefully he can get back in the groove he was in towards the end of the indoor season and beginning of the outdoor season.

Yeah.....It has to be something like that.
Alex was quite far off of his PR too.
The weather was great in the middle part of the afternoon. Maybe it deteriorated some. Arizona's super-stud Jordan Geist took 3rd and only went 66' 3 1/4". He had a season best of just under 71'.
The winner.....Adrian Piperi of Texas (home stadium) threw a PR 69' 3 1/4"......so, I dunno.

Bailey Retzlaff just finished up in the Women's HAMMER THROW.

She finished the prelims in 14th place so she won't make the finals.

She did achieve a PR today though throwing 209' 7" and moves into 3rd all-time at NDSU.

    Only a Junior.

In looking through all the T & F events, I have been surprised at how many Personal Bests (PB) the athletes are getting.
A lot of Season Bests (SB) as well. Must be good conditions for a track meet - and the athletes apparently aren't being timid.

Molly Detloff of UND threw 222' in the Hammer, a PB by quite a bit. Made 1st Team All-American.

Great prelim round for Akealy Moton in the Women's SHOT PUT.

She will enter the finals (3 throws) in 4th place. Her top throw so far is within 4 inches of her PB/SR.

    Throw # 4: 57' 3 1/2".
Moves into 3rd with a new school record throw.

    2 to go.

    Moton takes 5th.

A K-State girl passed her by 8 inches on her final throw.

1st Team All-American as a Freshman for Akealy Moton!!
