I'm not real familiar with how T&F tournaments work. Can you give us a breakdown of it so we can track his progress through Both events. I mean is this a one shot thing? If the shot put starts tonight will a champion be crowned tonight?

The SHOT PUT and the WEIGHT THROW are set up so that the prelims are immediately followed by the finals.

In the SHOT PUT, there are 16 competitors. After everyone has had 3 attempts, the top 9 marks are identified as finalists. Then, those top 9 get an additional 3 throws (starting with the athlete with the 9th best throw and working upward to the top thrower in the prelims).

ALL 6 throws by the 9 finalists qualify for the place finishes. In other words, if Payton's best throw is his 2nd prelim throw, that mark can be the winning throw.

Retzlaff and Gunnels grabbed the last 2 spots for the WOMEN'S SHOT PUT finals.

Last 3 throws (finals) coming up. Gunnels will be the first to go, then Retzlaff.

Retlaff and Gunnels fail to move up into the points finishing 8th and 9th.

    Terrible final 3 throws for Retzlaff including a 48' 0 3/4".

Oh....and ESPN3 is having a blast broadcasting false starts in the women's 60 meter hurdle prelims...…...and once in a while they will show someone perform a single long jump and then...…..back to the track.

Better than the Summit League's 3 hours of pole vault, Burt, yeah, they need two feeds, one for track and one for field

Of the 16 competitors, Otterdahl will throw 11th. Minnesota's Tharaldsen, 10th.
