    Default Big XII Tournament

The pre-seeds are out, but this format is giving me a headache.

    Some interesting pre seeds.
Sykora got the five seed and Madrigal is 6th, despite beating Sykora. Now Cam with have Schmitt, who has kind of handled him and then gets Fix as a reward if he pulls the upset. Bottom half has Bridges, who Cam was right with and Gomez, who Cam lost to in OT. 6 probably would've been better for him.
Fleetwood gets Moody who he beat in OT, and then the winner of Verner and Schwarm.
Van Maanen is right where he should be and will have to pull one upset to get to NCAAs.
Weber as the 5th seed is puzzling and pretty rough. He likely has to go through Sheets, Thomas, and Wright to win it and get to NCAAs, and they are the other three bests guys IMO.
Fogarty should have Rodgers in the quarters, who he lost to in the B12 title match last year.
De La Riva at 6 will probably lose to Lujan in the quarters, have a couple winnable wrestlebacks and then go up against Coleman, who he barely lost to. If he wins that, he is NCAA bound, if he loses, he'd probably have a winner take all match vs Hastings or Bastian, which is winnable. I like his spot.
Cordell has Adams, who beat him fairly handily earlier. It is winnable though and so would a quarterfinal against Hokit. A lot of possibilities for Cordell. If he loses to Adams right away, he'd probably have the 4 or 5 seed to stay alive. Pretty brutal.
Metz has a chance to go to the finals and also could go 0-2. His losses to Ngati and Hutchinson have really hurt him here.

165 LBS is going to be changed as Joe Smith beat out Chandler Rogers tonight in a best out of three wrestle-off to represent Oklahoma State. Smith won in straight matches, 3-2 and 7-4.

Also, whoever designed these brackets doesn't understand wrestling seeding correctly.
    Hail the BISON!!!

I agree. It looks like they tried to keep the brackets from last year, except they randomized the pigtails this time.

It must be a nice problem to be able to leave AA's on the bench.

165 has be re-drawn to reflect Jo Smith in the bracket...and Smith, an All American who beat out another All American for the spot, is the 8 seed. That moves Fogarty up to the 5 seed and a semifinal match against Nick Kiussus. Kiussus beat Fogarty in the dual handily, but I think Fogarty wins this one and advance to the semis and will face that 8 seed

It looks like that Kiussis match will be important too, because the loser will have to get by either Ashworth or Smith just to make the top six. Does it put Fogarty at much of a disadvantage to have a first round match? I'll be hoping for a quick bow-and-arrow.

Sounds like iteration #3 will be re-drawn today. Most seem to think Smith will be the 6 seed now. That would be great for Fogarty. Kiussus is the best quarterfinal matchup for him and he has beaten Ashworth before.

The new bracket looks pretty good for Fogarty. If it goes chalk, he will face Kiussus for fifth regardless of who wins the quarterfinals, and there is upside to do better.

Fleetwood made quick work of Coapstick from SDSU, then knocked off Moody from OU in OT again. Next up is Schwarm from UNI. He just needs one more win to qualify for NCAAs.

Sykora let Schimitt come from behind. He needs to get 6th to qualify. He'll probably have to win a rematch against Madrigal from OU to get that. Next up is Delgato from UVU.

Degen got a first round win against O'Shea from Air Force, then lost to Parker from ISU. Now he get's the #1 seed Alber from UNI, who lost in the first round.

Van Maanen was ahead of #1 seed Gfeller from OSU for much of the match, but he lost at the end. If he can beat Jenson from WYO again, he will at least have a shot at the 7th place finish that he needs.

Weber beat Sheets from OSU, and now he needs to win the re-match against Thomas from OU. He needs to get first to qualify.

Fogarty used the bow-and-arrow to pin Peterson from SDSU and Kiussis from WVU. Next up is #1 Ashworth from WYO, who Fogarty has split several matches with. Fogarty just needs to win one more match.

De La Riva beat Meneweather from AF and then lost to Lujan of UNI. Next he has Sam Grove, and then he will probably have to beat Mantanona from OU a second time to have a shot at 5th.

Otomo lost to Carlson from SDSU, and now has Maccallum from OU.

Eaton lost to Adams from WVU and now has Orndorff from UVU. Cordell has beaten him once before, and needs to do it again in order to have a shot at 7th.

Metz lost to Isley from UNI, and now he will have to avenge a couple of losses to get to 6th. Next up is Andrews from WYO.

Fogarty and Fleetwood will both be in the finals tomorrow.
