You are correct when you say it's a different world.... but I don't like it. It use to be that you would never share sad/upsetting/disturbing news unless you did it "in person" or at least over the telephone. Now, the younger generation simply sends a text (almost immediately) even after the death of a close person.
in my line of Work Texting is a huge asset for getting critical info, pictures, ect..especially now that you can communicate even if there isnt enough service to make a call, data can usually go thru if its not too large.
I have zero problem with a coach adapting and relating to what kids view as a connection. If our coaches being on Twitter/Facebook ect liking what their kids/recruits say and do helps build a relationship..go for it. Its 2019 not 1990
