2020 MVFC Recruiting

Yotes have done a good job recruiting this off-season. Pulled in a Top 10 recruiting class for the FCS along with the #1 overall FCS recruit and are now at 6 in-state recruits. For years we have heard how USD doesn't recruit local kids (meaning in-state), that's a bunch of BS. Given our location in the SE corner USD is going to naturally be a destination for Iowa and Nebraska kids. When it comes to recruiting in-state it really comes down to this quote from the article:


The recruits, though, have been swayed by USD’s academic offerings, according to Ockinga — “the academics sell the school itself, and that’s what they should be making their choice based on.”
Ultimately, that’s what it came down to.

“We’ve always recruited the state, but this year we found more kids that fit and wanted to be students at USD,” Ockinga said.


An ag dominated state is going naturally have more students gravitate to the ag school. These players should be choosing which school to go to based on academic offering first then athletics second. If everything is a good fit then great.

HeroSports updates it’s 2020 recruiting rankings through Jan 28, and will do so later after the late signing date.

South Dakota is #1 in the MVFC rankings, NDSU #2, Illinois State 3 and SDSU 4.

LB Vincent Starling is that top-ranked FCS recruit Yote 53 mentioned.

Carl has a QB!!! Demeatric Crenshaw - Pickerington Ohio - is the 2nd ranked MVFC recruit for YSU.

TE Joe Stoffel is NDSU’s top ranked recruit at #5 for the MVFC.

Northern Iowa RB Jaylin Richardson (Kansas City) was committed to Kansas, but was one of a few recruits that ran into “misunderstandings” with Kansas. He landed on his feet with the Panthers and is #4 in the MVFC rankings. NDSU had some interest in Richardson but went a different direction early on (Minnesota) with TK Marshall (not ranked).


T-herd posted the following in the 2020 recruiting thread:

I don’t know the answer to the above question. I did just notice Cam Miller is now a 3 star recruit on 247 (previously a 2 I think). According to 247 he is our top recruit of all time in their rating system.

If Cam Miller’s ranking was updated by 247, that may not be reflected by HeroSports as they look at a player’s other offers, with an emphasis on FBS offers. Miller did not make the top 20 list for the MVFC. And he “only” had other offers from UNI and SDSU......

Yup they stated that the Hero rankings were based on the number of teams and quality of teams that wanted that particular recruit.
