I think it's strange that so many on BV don't think it is a big deal. I remember the segment on ESPN College Gameday 1.0 where they were discussing the ability of Coach Bohl to just coach at the FCS level. There's not the same level of celebrity, both in terms of coaches as well as players. There's also not the same kind of donor money coming into the program, TV money, etc with assumed specific results. The job just has less stress at the FCS level than it does in FBS. That's undeniable. How CK deals with that is the thing that will propel him either upward or downward. I feel like he'll be fine (better than fine, actually) but if you would have asked me 5 years ago if he could make the jump, I would have thought it was a ridiculous question.
I never thought that Bohl could make that leap.
His ability to make this jump IS unique and it SHOULD be questioned by anyone with a dog in the fight. I believe that CK is absolutely perfect to make this leap for this particular school. It would be a disaster at so many other ones I suspect. At KSU, he has a known quantity in his AD plus generally a "close-enough" culture to mold into his own image.
I think in several years, we'll be looking at CK very fondly and realizing just how lucky this program really was to have had him.
Insert something clever here...
