That said if you can stomach the pressure of a multi million dollar per year gig for four or five years and you are willing to maintain your prior standard of living then how much more career do you need? Perhaps not too much?

I turned down a *5x* raise two years ago because it was too much travel.

I can very much understand why someone wouldn't want to follow one of the greatest coaches of all time, at a program where only said Hall Of Famer coach, who name is on the stadium, has ever won.

A buck to a buck 25 isnt the same as 500k to 3 million

NDSU is probably more stressful than KSU. Our fans get pissed when we win by too much. But if you lose a game... holy shit. Meltdown. Klieman cant even enjoy the 2016 season after beating Iowa because we didnt win a National Championship.

You make 3 million a year, you can get out of coaching fast and you'll have zero stress

Yeah right. That was my point. If you can hack a few years of that and don’t succumb to the allure of “more” then you can be done and live well.

It's worse because he retired once and came back after the other guy couldn't hack it.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Plus the street leading to K-State is named after him, the stadium is named after him, and he has $250K per year retirement clause in his contract to be an ambassador for K-State. How could that go badly??

When I was a kid I turned down cleaning my room mom asked me to to drive tractor for dad.

Just curious to hear any stories of bisonvillers who turned down jobs with a substantial pay increase and why you did it.
I've taken jobs where I knew I was going to make substantially less (leaving Corwin as internet manager to go to Wheels as finance manager for example). I made about 2/3 as much at Wheels as I did at Corwin but I had way more family time and way way way less stress. It also gave me the opportunity to learn a new skill set which helped me get where I am now.

Never turned down a bigger payday, accepted a couple. There are always the trade-offs of time, workload, accountability, etc. Easier to do without kids.

I've turned down a couple opportunities because I wasn't willing to relocate. Both were about 40% raises, but required me to move to Kansas City or Nashville. I wasn't willing to move my kids.
