I think some of our fans and coaches got spoiled by watching Easton shred a defense with his legs. Very few QBs are as durable as Easton was so the fewer designed QB runs the better IMO.
Agreed, it wasn't too long ago there were plenty of complaints about the shotgun read-option not being "Bison football" from the armchair OCs on this site. If Noland is the guy you'll probably see a lot more I-formation with the QB under center and play-action to set up the pass plays like when Roehl played with Walker as his QB.

I'd rather have a QB that can pass well but can't run than a QB that can run well but can't pass. I'm not saying Trey Lance is the latter. In fact I think he's a plenty capable passer which is why I expect him to be the starter on 8/31 but I think the offense is adaptable enough to win at a high level with either style QB.

Pretty sure we don’t know if zeb is a running guy or not. He said in an interview (I think the insiders) that he ran in high school quite a bit but couldn’t at Iowa state because the coaches didn’t want him getting hurt. They had serious depth issues. For all we know he’s just as athletic as Easton. Doubt it but we don’t know

I agree that QB has to be able to pass first over run. I am going on the assumption that they both can pass. The cerebral portion of the game is also very important, we have to be in the right play for the right situation against the defense presented in front of them.

The ability to run is a major x factor for a QB, some of our biggest moments I remember in the last 8 years were when we capitalized with a QB who could run. Jensen against Georgia southern around the left end for 55yards in 2011, Jensen up the center for the lead on 4th and 3 from the 5 in 2012. Wentz around the end and laying out superman style in the Championship. Stick up the center against Iowa on the last drive. When the D has to account for the QB in college football good things happen. It is still all predicated on the QB being able to pass very well. I am not a fan of run first QB's at all. You have to put the D into uncomfortable situations and we have been masters of it the last 8 years.

I am pretty sure Zeb is not near the running guy Tre is. From his tapes Zed was not even mobile when he dropped back to pass.

The offensive side of the preseason all-conference team was released today.

    https://valley-football.org/document...ense.pdf?id=69

Zack Johnson and Dillon Radunz make the first team with Ben Ellefson and Ross Kennelly as honorable mention.

Based on the "Total picks" numbers it looks like the Bison will put 4 on the first team defense/special teams and 1 more honorable mention.

If I'm reading that correctly, then NDSU must have 4 first-team all conference defensive/special team players.

Yep, the interesting thing is NDSU only returns 4 starters on defense (Tuszka, Cox, Bridges, and Hendricks). Guessing all of them are going to be included along with Wegner as either first team or HM punter.

So if you include the specialists NDSU returns 9 starters and every one of them is going to be listed or mentioned on the MVFC preseason team. That's pretty good.

I don't remember what the spring numbers were but there are some redshirt freshman that look like they've bulked up impressively also:

    LB Mark Stumpf 6'2" 221
DE Tony Pierce Jr 6'0" 230
    DE Bartholomew Ogbu 6'2" 241

EDIT: RB Jalen Bussey 5'5" 153 - he's going to be a fun one to watch methinks
