I think that would go a long way. I don't know how feasible or straightforward that is. But getting a name or two once in awhile to come to Fargo would be cool. If Nelson comes back, I would expect to see a sizable bump in attendance next season. It would simply be too hard for people to ignore. Throw in Boden, and a roster of guys who fans are starting to know...should be getting a bump anyway.

The last 5 minutes last night were terrible basketball. And not because of the teams or players on the court. Perverse incentives in the rules to hold the ball and take bad shots late in the clock and of course fouling from behind. They need to fix it it’s gross.

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie

If they fixed fouling from behind, basketball would be much more watchable.

Yeah, scheduling better home OOC opponents is much easier said than done. First off it costs $$$ but you also need to be somewhat lucky (like they were with ETSU in December 2019) and hope you can "hit" on a few of your home/home agreements and bring in a tournament caliber team from another mid-major conferences. I'd like to see them parlay some football connections in the MVC to get some teams like Illinois St or UNI into Fargo. I think they did a 2-for-1 with Indiana St - that doesn't help with getting more home games but it's worth trying if they can be judicious about it. And for crying out loud get rid of the D3/NAIA games at least or schedule them in early November and call them what they are: exhibitions.

A comment above, "Why does NDSU basketball under coach Richman have to wait until Sioux Falls to figure out how to play basketball every season??" Are you kidding me? We just finished 3rd in the Summit League going into the tournament with a team full of under classmen. We can talk about transfer portal BS in a different thread. Coach Richman has taken this team full of kids, figured out a way to make them play together as a team and come together in time for tournament basketball in March and roll through USD and South Dakota State in Sioux Falls in front of a crowd that is 80% South Dakota fans. Here we are yet again playing for another Summit League Championship against the top team in our league against a head coach who is fiery and mouthy and couldn't be more fun to play against. Us Bison Fans get to sit back and enjoy yet another Championship game watching our beloved Bison play on ESPN in front of a national audience yet again...but you are pissed because our regular season wasn't quite good enough. This is Division 1 athletics. The fact that we are able to hold our programs to this high of a standard is unbelievable. The fact that this thread still exists on "Bisonville" makes me want to puke. Coach Richman has done nothing but commit that last 20+ years to this program and recruit his ass off for Tim Miles, Saul Phillips and now himself and continue to get us to Summit League Championship games and in the Big Dance. My memory is a little hazy but didn't we play Duke and some guy named Zion Williams not long ago? DUKE...NDSU...remember that? Does that mean we should be happy with that and not continue to strive to get better...looks like to me that we have done quite the opposite. Listen to SDSU's press conference last night and even Henderson had to give Richman credit on how he coaches and what he learned from him while at NDSU.

Yeah...let's keep this Richman thread rolling...I'll go back to reading the comments...thanks for your time.
Welcome to the board! But I think you're missing the point.

You mention that NDSU played Duke a few years back as a 16 seed vs the #1 overall seed. Is that NDSU basketball's high point of success for you? It was fun, but I certainly don't. The high point or "goal" of any mid major program should be to be in the best position to actually WIN a game in the NCAA tournament. The people who are critical at times want to see NDSU get back to beating Oklahoma in the 2014 NCAA tournament, or make a NCAA Tournament run like ORU did in 2021. In order to do that, a team would need to build a resume to get a higher seed than just a 16 seed... Yes that would actually include games in regular season.

If your peak expectations are for NDSU to just be a 16 seed any time they win all 3 game in Sioux Falls and make the Dance, then the regular season does indeed not matter to you. And that is fine if you feel that way. My issue when people say that the regular season games don't matter... then why should fans watch or even show up to games? ALL games of the season matter, not just 3 games in Sioux Falls.

Anyways, I hope like heck NDSU stuns ORU tonight! Go Bison!

    Spot on Prof!

Dave is a competent Summit League coach. I think the issue is he has the personality of white rice, an attitude of self importance, his interviews are unspecific coach speak and some athletes don’t want to play for a guy like that.

But, all you higher ceiling guys, be careful what you wish for. I remember when many on BV thought the game had passed Amy Ruley by and we needed new leadership going into the DI era. With our budget and history, replacing our mens Basketball could send the program in the other direction.
