Saw the original buyout article linked at the bottom of that one: https://www.inforum.com/sports/30414...-football-game
I had forgotten how steamed Taylor was about that. This is a pretty ironic quote from him now:
I'm guessing Gene will be checking in on the game on Saturday... even with all his other concerns right now."It's disappointing for FCS football when you finally have good inter-conference games like this," Taylor said. "Georgia Southern did it. Maybe Montana State will have the pleasure to come back to our place and get welcomed by the hospitality of our fans. It is very frustrating to try and do this with conferences and for them to pull out."
Yup, GT was hot and he never showed that kind of emotion!
Gene should be our guest coin flipper. Then could flip off their sideline too after the toss.
The buyout is the last thing I remember about MSU football. That’s why we still remember and talked about it. Trust me, we have been waiting for this game.
Looking at some of the season numbers I dont see how this one is close baring some injury issues. Here some team stats and rankings sandwiched by some MVFC opponents
Scoring D
(3) NDSU 12.2
(44) Western Illinois 26.0
(52) Montana St (26.5)
(56) Youngstown (27.2)
Total D
(8) NDSU 287.9
(55) SDSU 374.5
(72) Montana St 402.3
(87) South Dakota 430.1
Scoring O
(7) NDSU 41.2
(43) Southern Illinois 30.1
(45) Montana State 30.0
(68) South Dakota 26.7
Total Offense
(20) NDSU 458.5
(62) Youngstown 382.3
(64) Montana State 378.3
(66) Western Illinois 375.9
If we take the average between Scoring O & D looking at NDSU 34 - Montana State 21 throw in a homefield advantage and ill say something like 41-17 Bison win
I like some of the faster starts the Bison have gotten off to this year, with that, I think the final score will be dictated by the 1st quarter as well.
Not sure what other Bobcat fans have posted but I would not be unhappy with a 34-21 NDSU win, or even 41-17. My view is that we are totally outmatched and will really struggle to move the ball. I just hope there is something positive to take away after it's all over. At the very least we'll get a chance to see what excellence looks like.
Good luck to the Bison and lets hope its a good game, at least for awhile.
