The same reason he wasn't going to be here forever. Nobody does. Everybody but Gene Taylor is looking for the next Bill Snyder, they no longer exist.

Maybe it's been asked already, but what is the buyout on Klieman's contract?

    So Levitt would stay forever?

It is characteristic of the unlearned that they are forever proposing something which is old, and because it has recently come to their own attention, supposing it to be new.

He's old. He would likely retire. If I were to guess it might give them the space to get out from under the Snyder nonsense.

    -----------------------------------

As for buyout and termination. Here's his contract. Some interesting language.

    https://hkm.com/football/contracts/chris-klieman/

He's currently subject to a $150k buyout and he has a clause that states he cannot contact any recruits that weren't previously contacted by his new institution for the period of one year.

Well, hopefully, all coaches are transitional - the only ones who aren't are those that see their program closed. Plus, there's the 10-year "rule" that Coach Bohl brought up - the thinking goes that if you stay longer than 10 years, you start to stagnate.

Anyhow, anything over five years is a win. Sure, Coach K., if he leaves, would only be at five seasons, but I think that there should be a +1 for every National Championship.

    I think it's only like $100K.

Read somewhere that he probably would but only if Lakes could be an assistant....

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Coach Klieman come here as an assistant in 2011? If so, all of NDSU's FCS championships Coach K was here for. We haven't won a FCS Championship without him. Time to panic. Purple.

I'd rather have Coach Mess as HC than anyone else. I know he hasn't been long in the system but he's been absolutely awesome.
    Insert something clever here...
