The football program has always been on a completely different level compared to it's peers than the men's basketball program has. An external hire is more risky given the crazy amount of momentum the football team has.
This next year may end up defining Matt Larsen's legacy at NDSU as he'll likely be making hires at the two highest profile coaching positions in the athletic department. Gene Taylor was 4 for 5 on those hires (Richman being the only "miss").

Join the Green and the Gold Collective to take Bison football to the next level. Starts at $10 a month
The Green and The Gold Collective is excited to announce our #DriveToFive membership campaign. The goal of this campaign is to get to 500 monthly members. He might get two, but be just under that. He will definitely be the lowest paid coach in the Big 12. I get the feeling that's why it was so easy for Seth Litrell to turn it down.
