I went to school with Phil. Nice guy. Sorry to hear he passed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Phil’s name was brought up many times in our house due to his Spud and NDSU success. Some of my earliest football memories involve cheering for him. Prayers for his family.

His wife just posted the following on Facebook:
Friends. It appears that Phil Ostlie died because of an enlarged heart that he likely had all his life. Since he had no apparent health problems, it was never detected. We always said he had a big heart, but we never thought it would kill him.
As soon as his body is ready I am planning on taking him back to Minnesota and will plan to stay there for the foreseeable future. I think I'm going to need the support in the coming months.
We are grieving hard, but not as those who have no hope. We are looking forward to meeting up with our precious husband and father again one day

Hail the BISON!!!
I remember Phil as a terrific student athlete. He treated others respectfully and always appeared composed and happy.
