    Default 2020 Enrollment

NDSU enrollment drops, meanwhile UND, Bottineau, Valley City, and Dickinson state are up. The whole state is down 2%. Last year MSUM was up, haven't seen this years numbers yet

At what point in time do we start looking for someone to blame? President Dean Bresciani set a goal of enrolling 18,000 students and now it's 12,846 down from 14,747 in 2014. Sorry the pandemic is not an excuse. This is a recent trend. People don't decide not to go to college because of a pandemic. That's almost 2,000 less people living in Fargo who all rent and spend money at area businesses. They are potential long term home owners too. That impact is more significant than people realize.

I think you may have to look a bit deeper.

I think the university is still dealing with the tiny 2018 class.
Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
Scrooge-"Are there no prisons?". "Plenty of prisons..."
Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

How bad was 2018? How does it compare to most years?

Not NDSU, but it is interesting that Montana State has grown so much and the U of Montana has been loosing students.

Then if you look at MSUM

In 2019, they enrolled 1,512 new undergraduate students, an increase from the 1,495 students in the fall of 2018. So MSUM can increase enrollment.. UND can... NDSU is losing students.

    Makes me wonder why?

In state tuition, NDSU and UND are about the same. MSUM is about a grand cheaper. But out of state, NDSU and UND are about 2500 cheaper. So it's not really price.

    Fargo fatigue?

I was down to either Fargo or Ames back in the 90's and part of the choice of NDSU was Fargo. 20 years later if I was facing the same choice I think I would go with Ames. Fargo is losing it's appeal.
