A couple of quick observations. Mike Maresh was one hell of a player. Adam Keller carried those 285 lbs very well.

There have been lots of great LBs at NDSU, but the best LB group in my opinion was Maresh, Humber, and Mays.
If it flies it dies.
Long for the days of freezing in the south stands of Dacotah Field.
It is hard for me to believe there are only 16 days (YES, ONLY 16 DAYS!) until the Dome gets rocking with Cal Poly on the field.
I have been thinking about how grateful I am for Bizon football. Here are a few things that crossed my mind. 1). Tradition. Anyone who thinks this is the only era that the Bison have won championships is dead wrong. 2). Joe Chapman, Gene Taylor, and Craig Bohl, all for obvious reasons. 3). Past and Present players who have been selfless in the pursuit of excellence. 4). Klieman, and his assistants. 5.)Dr. Piatt. 6) Tailgating, indoor football, and season tickets. 7). The MVFC gauntlet for getting the Bison prepared for the playoffs. 8). ESPN for their coverage and publicity when it wasn't necessary. 9). Six FBS teams since 2010 who have paid NDSU $2.175 for the privilege of losing. I am looking forward to thanking 3 PAC-12 teams. 10).Our rivals. It's good to be the envy of the FCS.
**Howard Bliss was the 16th Bison head football coach for the 1948-1949 seasons. His record was 3-16 for a .158 winning percentage. By coincidence "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC just came on my radio. True story.
**Steve Krumrei (1967-1969) holds the Bison season career interception record of 16.
**From 1981-1990 the Bison had a record of 111-16-2 (.868).
**Sanford Quale was the 16th pick in the 16th round (406th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in 1974.
**It was the Bison 16-7 over South Dakota in the 1985 semifinals.
**In the 2016 NFL draft, Joe Haeg was selected #16 in the 5th round (player 155 overall) by the Indianapolis Colts. Was it Joe who caught the pass that went nowhere in one of the championship games? I can't remember for sure who it was and what year it happened. There are getting to be so many trips to Frisco lately they are all starting to run together. I'll guess it was against ISU-R.
Today thinking of two players who wore #16 to highlight today was easy. The first is Brock Jensen (2009-2014). Coming up with things to say about this guy is not hard at all and could literally fill pages. He finished his career with three straight National Championships and as the winningest quarterback in FCS history with a 48-5 record and 47 of those wins was as a starter. As incredible as it may seem if the stars align that record might be broken this year by Stick who is 34-3. To be honest, with the two quarterbacks who have followed Brock I had forgotten just how good this guy was. The number of records that he still owns and his rankings in the top 5 is absolutely crazy.
Game: #2 highest % of passes completed 92.9; #1 most consecutive passes completed 21, (14+7) and #2, 19, (4+15). #4 most touchdown passes 4 twice (tie).
Season: Pass attempts, #2, 338 (207-338-8), #4, 329 (218-329-7), and #5 326 (219-326-4); Completions, #3, 219 (219-326-4), #4, 218 (218-329-7) and #5, 207 (207-338-8); Passing Yards, #2, 2,793 (2013), #3, 2,524 (2011) and #5 (tie), 2,331 (2012); Passing TD's, #1, 34 (2013); Pass Completion %, #2, 67.2 (219-326-4) 2011 and #4, 66.3 (218-329-7); Pass Efficiency, #3, 167.4 (2013); Total Offense Yards, #2, 3,272 (2013), and #5, 2,697( 2011); Total TD's Responsible For, #1, 44 (2013) and #5, 29 (2012).
Career: #1 Passing Completions, 1,124, Attempts, 703; Yards 8,598; Passing TD's, 72; Total Offense yards, 9,838; TD's Responsible For, 107 ; and Total Offense Yards 9,838; #2, Passing yards Game, 152.2 and Total Offense Game 182.2 (54 games); Passing Completion %, #5, 62.5.
If I calculated things correctly that is 26 entries in the top 5 in the categories, with 16 either #1 (10) or #2 (6). Totally ridiculous, or as the kids (and some adults) say "sick". I have never understood how something "sick" can be good. Below are the awards he collected.

The second #16 is R.J. Urzendowski (6-0, 200 pounds, 2014-2017). He played in 60 games and had 149 receptions for 2,435 yards (16.34 yards per catch) and 22 touchdowns. Speaking for myself (as I always do in these posts) I will remember R.J. as a clutch receiver when a play had to be made. I think three games are clearly among his best. During 2014 as a true Freshman he shined in two games. First, the 12-yard catch he made against SDSU in the playoffs with 54 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner. Second, during the National Championship against ISU-R, he had 100 yards and 5 catches. Seventy-eight of those came on three catches of 32, 13, and 32 yards over a span of 38 seconds during the winning drive. Overall in 2014, he had the second most receptions on the team (32 for 626 yards, 19.6 average, and 5 touchdowns). Third, last season his one-handed touchdown catch against YSU was nothing short of spectacular. Below are pictures of these three catches and a link to a very short video clip of the YSU catch.

After typing " Bizon" on purpose in the opening paragraph I wondered why my spell check didn't try to correct it After getting on the Google, as Bush 43 would say, I discovered "Bizon" came up first as Bison SMG (also coincidently spelled "Bison") a 9mm Russian submachine gun from the 1990's from a team headed by the son of the developer of the Kalashnikov AK-47. That was an extremely effective weapon. The more you know. Regardless, that is it for day 16 and tomorrow will be day 15. I promise.

The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
