Best case scenario, Boise State, brings in just $1.7M more in ticket revenue than NDSU. Where are you coming up with the other $10.3M to make NDSU average? Look at what Colorado State's fancy new $220M stadium is getting them...$1.4M less revenue than NDSU.

Of course I am making some assumptions since we don't have a breakout by venue, but in any case ticket revenue (i.e. stadium) is in no way an obstacle to going FBS, rather it's the primary argument to go FBS.
Must spread rep; I misread the post and deleted my comment.

If you think it's possible to convince the students and the school/state to more than double their contributions then the Fargodome is fine for an FBS athletic budget.
Yep, good answer. We are tapped out for growth and you need a larger stadium to host better G5 schools or they won't come. Any move up in the future will have to involve the students though. No need to go all JMU on them, but they will have to be on board.

That's a big positive for you then; it will be interesting to watch the numbers after this stuff washes out. I'll never understand the extreme criticism of when UND did exactly the right thing and made tough decisions. I'll always tip my hat to UND on that; I never knew they had it in them. I think we could keep it in our back pocket. Students rejected the last increase but it was kind of a weak sell as it would have just gone to the general athletic budget. Moving up to the FBS would be a different animal

All the sunbelt schools get G5 games with similar or ballpark sized stadiums. It's the power 5 games that are going to someday not exist, unless the G5 goes to their stadium. Many of the G5 schools draw similar to us so it's not like we would have Iowa or Nebraska rolling into town

Curious about streaming revenue... I have been watching regular season games up on ESPN3 since they started offering all the games on their platform -- last season (2017) I noticed they were monetizing the crap out of NDSU football games: as in lots of commercials, including businesses local to me showing commercials during my stream. A few years ago, when Bison games were first streamed, there were no ads -- just a screen saying the broadcast was in commercial break.

Meanwhile, when I watch other FCS games up there, I typically get the " broadcast is in commercial break" screen instead of commercials. I have heard that on ESPN3, NDSU games have significantly higher viewership than the majority of games up there -- which given the level of monetization we are seeing now, is probably true.

I remember hearing or reading a few years ago, that NDSU was offering the games for free to ESPN just to get exposure. However, now that they are selling commercials during our games, and with "ESPN plus" I am paying $4.95/mo to have access to FCS games -- is NDSU receiving any revenue from ESPN?

At some point NDSU needs to get their fair share of any revenue ESPN is generating. I don't expect it to be huge, but every little bit helps, right?

If I am understanding how NDSU has approached this, they are largely thankful for the ESPN3 as it shut people like me up! (Credit to NDSU to addressing this issue, definitively.) I am pretty sure they still don't get any revenue on that (correct me if wrong; I bet Gabe knows.). However, keep in mind ESPN can see the number of streams and that could be why the commercials are being worked in and may lead to something better.

Is this the same for College Gameplan on DirecTV. We had that until 2015 and the commercial breaks were always the same promos for Sportscenter.

NDSU is at the near bottom of Total Allocated and % Allocated. If the Bison were subsidized like the other schools and had an extra $13 Million, their Total Revenue would be top ten in this list. As Keith Brake pointed out yesterday, NDSU is doing it the right way by relying on funding coming from alumni and fans instead of mainly the State and students.
    Hail the BISON!!!

Back in 2015.... I always got the same commercialforCapital One with Alec Baldwin... now I get several different advertisers including a car dealership here in Northern Virginia... I hope at some point, NDSU gets a a little cut of that action.

If nothing else.. this is a potential future revenue stream.
