I'm not going to be happy until I see a uniform that incorporates NDSU's tartan.
I like this the best too. I like tradition. Harvest helmets only once or twice a year. If they do white or black, just once a year.
But I grew up when football uniform fashion wasn't a big thing. The flashiest helmet was the LA Rams. Otherwise helmets were designed by:
- We need a helmet. Okay. How about orange? That's radical, put a brown and white stripe down the middle. That's crazy! Okay, here it is, the Cleveland Browns.
- Hey, why don't we put a bear on the side? Too hard, just put a white C. Hey the Chicago Bears.
- We need a logo. Just steal the steel industry logo and add 'ers' to it. Great idea, but I'm too lazy to put it on each side of the helmet, just do one side. Walla, the Pittsburgh Steelers!
I'm convinced if the Vikings were and expansion team today, they would have some musclebound Norseman on the helmet instead of the horn. The Viking horn was a mistake, by the way, they had picked out a purple helmet and spilled white paint on it and it dripped a little. True story.
