    Default Special Teams

So, I've never really analyzed this, but I thought maybe someone else has. Question... Does anybody have last years main starters for kickoff, kick return, punt, and punt return teams? I'm wondering who we graduated, and who might fill those positions.

Usually, and by far not 100% (see Kyle Emanuel), those positions are typically filled by underclassman since, for lack of a better word, are more "expendable" outside of key returner, snapper, kickers, holder positions. Thus they vary significantly game to game depending on injuries, etc. Occasionally, against a great special team opponent, they will roll more starters in.

So, you are asking extremely difficult question and usually you'll know the seniors who've changed in key rolls like punter, snapper kicker, holder, and returners which are most impacted by senior graduation. For those, new punter, holder, and snapper this year.

Yeah most of the cover guys are backups most of the time. Would like to see our kicking and returns improve over the last couple seasons. Was pleasantly surprised by the punting in the spring scrimmage. Wegner appears to have a really good leg.

Chris Board comes to mind as someone that played a huge role on kickoffs last year, and he is now graduated and trying to make the Ravens roster.

Chris was an amazing special teams player for NDSU. If he did not make the tackle he forced the returner into the rest of the team. I loved watching him on kick coverage.

We did lose James Fisher our long snapper who was a stud at the position. They had his stats in the paper around senior day time and I don't recall the number of snaps he had in his career but he was responsible for 0 bad snaps in his 4 years here. That is incredible for someone who snaps for XP's, FG's and Punts. Hopefully we have someone equally as talented ready to take over.

We have truly been spoiled at that position. Michael Murphy started the four years before James, and had similar stats. I can't remember many bad snaps for EIGHT YEARS!

I think I've heard Ross Kennelly being mentioned, but Fisher did a tremendous job at that position.

I think we actually use quite a few of our main guys but most of them are lbs, cbs or rbs along with the backups at those positions. I know cox and board were always one of the guys making the tackle on kickoffs.
